SPEECH AT THE RECEPTION MARKING THE 45th ANIVERSARY OF CHINA-TANZANIAN TIE

2009-04-29

  BY H.E. Ambassador Liu Xinsheng

(April 24, 2009)

Honorable Bernard Kamillius Membe,

Honorable Ministers, Deputy ministers and Parliament Members,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen.

Good Evening,

This Union day marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Tanzania, let me begin by extending, on behalf of the Chinese Government, a hearty welcome to all of you present at this Sapphire Jubilee Reception, or to be precise, a Tanzanite Jubilee Reception.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the 45th year, in terms of both a man's life and the bilateral ties between two countries, represents a time of maturity and prosperity. The 45th anniversary provides us with an opportunity to look back. In retrospect we are proud to see that the friendly relations between China and Tanzania, fostered by the founding fathers of both countries, progress smoothly despite the profound changes both in the international environment and in our respective domestic situations. Numerous projects or programs, and memorable moments, such as TAZARA, the Chinese medical teams in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Tabora, and Mara Regions, the successful torch relay in the run-up to the Beijing Olympic Games in this very city, can be cited to highlight the all-round cooperation between China and Tanzania over the past 45 years.

Historically, the common cause to fight for liberation and independence brought us together. And now the common development goals and converging interests has led us into an era of new partnership featuring political equality and mutual trust, economic win-win cooperation and cultural exchanges and enrichment., and it is the new dynamics of bilateral ties that enable us to sustain our traditional friendship in times of adversity or prosperity.

The momentum for the bilateral friendship is ever growing. In February this year, President Hu Jintao has paid a successful visit to Tanzania at the invitation of President Kikwete. The two leaders has reached consensus on a variety of issues, among other things, including joint effort to deal with the global economic crisis, and to promote understanding and friendship among the younger generations. As one of the follow-up actions of the visit, a 50-member Tanzanian youth delegation will visit China early in the second half of this year. I am fully convinced, that the trees of friendship between China and Tanzania will be ever green.

Your Excellences, Ladies and Gentlemen,

In conclusion, may I now propose a toast,

To the prosperity of the People's Republic of China and the United Republic of Tanzania,

To the continued cooperation of mutual benefits between China and Tanzania,

And to the happiness of all friends here,

Cheers!
