Vice Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Cai Dafeng Visited Tanzania

Invited by the Tanzanian National Assembly, a delegation of the Chinese National People’s Congress (NPC) headed by Vice Chairman Cai Dafeng of its Standing Committee paid a visit to Tanzania from 15 to 20 November 2018. During his stay in Tanzania, Mr. Cai Dafeng met with National Assembly Speaker Job Ndugai, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, President of Zanzibar Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein, and Zanzibar House of Representatives Speaker Zubeir Ali Maulid.

Mr. Cai said in the official meetings that China and Tanzania enjoy traditional friendship, deep-rooted political trust and pragmatic cooperation yielding fruitful results. He mentioned that the China is willing to make joint efforts together with Tanzania and Zanzibar to deepen their cooperation in various fields so as to bring more actual benefits to their peoples, taking the opportunity of implementing the results achieved at the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and jointly building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Mr. Cai also said that the NPC is ready to increase exchanges and strengthen friendship with Tanzanian National Assembly and Zanzibar House of Representatives, aiming at consolidating the political and social foundations of the friendship between the two countries, and continuously playing a positive role in the promotion of bilateral cooperation in different fields.

The Tanzanian hosts spoke highly of the traditional friendship and the achievements from practical cooperation between China and Tanzania and between China and Zanzibar. They thanked China for always providing strong support to the economic and social development of Tanzania, and expressed their willingness to strengthen cooperation with China in such areas as infrastructure, tourism and aviation within the framework of implementing the outcome agreements of the FOCAC Beijing Summit. Mr. Ndugai and Mr. Maulid also expressed their hope that the legislatures of Tanzania, Zanzibar and China could strengthen communication and mutual learning so as to better serve their people.

During the visit, Mr. Cai Dafeng inspected some development projects assisted by the Chinese Government, including TAZARA and the Library at the University of Dar es Salaam. He also laid a wreath for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for China-Tanzania friendship at the Cemetery for Memorable Deceased Chinese Experts Assisting Tanzania.
