  • Magnitude: 8.0 Richter scale
  • Disaster area: around 100,000 square kilometers
  • The death toll: 51,151
  • Missing:29,328
  • Survivors pulled out from the rubble: 6,375
  • The number of injured: 288,431
  • People rescued and transferred: 360,159
  • Latest rescued: Mrs. Cui Changhui at 14:30 of 21 May, nearly 216 hours after the quake.
  • Aftershocks: over 7000. By 22 May, 167 measuring 4 or higher on the Richter scale. The biggest was magnitude 6.1.
  • People staying in government shelters: over 4.8 million
  • Houses damaged: 15.61 million, with 3.13 million collapsed.
  • Farmland damaged: 33,333 hectares, including more than 10,000 hectares of wheat and rice and more than 20,000 hectares of vegetables
  • Estimated economic damage: over 20 billion U.S. dollars
  • Relief fund earmarked by the Government: 13.975 billion yuan (1.999 billion U. S. dollars)
  • Donations of domestic and overseas: 21.416 billion yuan (3.064 billion U.S. dollars)
  • Cases of epidemics or emergent public health incidents: none
