Remark on the donation ceremony of Huawei Technologies to WAMA Foundation

By Mr. Fu Jijun, Deputy Head and Political Counselor of Chinese Embassy to Tanzania on 12th March, 2009

Thank you Mr. Chairman for your kindly introduction,

Honorable Mama Salma Kikwete, Chairperson of the Board of WAMA foundation

Honorable Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Parliament Members,

Respected Mr. Yuan Song, CEO of Huawei Tanzania,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good Morning!

It is a great pleasure for me and my colleagues to attend the donation ceremony of Huawei Tanzania to WAMA foundation. Please allow me to express my heartfelt thanks to WAFA foundation and Huawei Tanzania for their kindly invitation to me and my colleagues. I would also like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Tanzania, to extend warm congratulation to people who make the donation ceremony to come true.

Both China and Tanzania are developing countries. We are facing similar tasks to quicken our economic and social development. The lessons China has learned from its experience is that education is playing a more and more important role in a country’s prosperity, and women, in China they are regarded as the half sky, are the significant force to promote the growth of the economy and improve the living standard of the people.

In this regard, we appreciate very much that, the WAMA foundation, under the leadership of Honorable Mama Kikwete, has become a recognized pioneer, in increasing the number of economically empowered women, progressive communities and healthy, well educated children free from poverty, ignorance and disease in the East African region and Africa continent at large.

The Embassy is very glad to be a close partner of the WAMA Foundation in its efforts to reach its glorious mission. It has always been encouraging the Chinese enterprises in Tanzania like Huawei Tanzania to feed back Tanzanian society through supplying high technologies, management skills, employment opportunities and donation with money and materials. We are pleased that more and more Chinese enterprises in Tanzania such as Huawei Technologies becoming good partners of WAMA foundation. Last month, on the occasion of celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year on February 14, three Chinese companies donated some solar cookers, hand-pressure water pumps and anti-malaria drug which are worth more than $110,000 to WAMA foundation. Today, Huwei Tanzania donates another 100 computers worth $60,000. We hope these donations will contribute a little bit to WAMA foundation for achieving its goals in enabling the e-teaching and learning.

Honorable Mama Salma Kikwete,

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Huawei Technologies is a leading global telecommunications solutions provider. Its huge investment in human resources and R&D capacity, enable it to react swiftly and effectively to meet the customers' needs. Huawei has been paying great attention to Tanzania market. It is always using its most advanced technologies, equipment and materials to serve its partners with long-term vision. As I know, the technologies of Huawei have been widely used in mobilizing education resources. I hope Huawei can set up stronger partnership with WAMA foundation and Ministry of Education of Tanzania and fully us its technologies to serve Tanzanian government and people.

In conclusion, I would like, on behalf the Chinese Embassy, to express our highly appreciation to Honorable Mama Salma Kikwete, for her personal contribution to the mutual beneficial cooperation between China and Tanzania in the gender, children, education and the other fields. I would also like to assure you that the Embassy will continue to do its best for furthering the friendship between China and Tanzania.
